AFRICA
A tragedy hit Nigeria (02/07) as an oil tanker exploded in Ahumbe village, Benue state on July 1, 2019, killing at least 50 people and injuring 101. The accident happened after the driver tried to avoid a pothole in the street, causing the tanker to flip over and explode. Meanwhile in Tunisia (05/07), the Tunisian Prime Minister Youssef Chahed has banned the wearing of niqab in government offices for security reasons. The ban came after three suicide bombings in the space of a week in the capital city, Tunis.
AMERICA
A shootout followed by gunshots happened in the United States (U.S.) city of San Bruno, near San Fransisco. The incident happened in a shopping centre at Tanforan (06/07), injuring two teenage boys. The San Bruno Police Chief Ed Barberini said that the investigation is still active and anyone with information related to the shooting is urged to contact the San Bruno Police Department. Still from the US West Coast, a 6.4 magnitude earthquake has occurred in Southern California (04/07), destroying several buildings and triggering fire. Moving from the U.S. West Coast to the East Coast, a far-left protest movement in Washington, D.C. marred the 4th of July celebrations with flag-burning incidents (05/07).
ASIA
The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, has stolen the spotlight after bringing his own mug and drinking by himself whilst attending the G-20 Summit in Osaka, Japan, last week (30/06). In Hong Kong, a huge anti-Beijing demonstration marked the 22nd anniversary of the Handover of Hong Kong to mainland China from the United Kingdom (01/07). Meanwhile in Jakarta, Indonesia (03/07), the United States Pacific Fleet Commander, Admiral John C. Aquilino, completed a multi-day visit to Indonesia to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries, whilst at the same time celebrating the 70th anniversary of relations with Indonesia. Still in Jakarta (05/07), dozens of emak-emak or middle-aged women came to protest at the house of Gerindra Party leader, Prabowo Subianto, at Kertanegara, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta. They carried banners, one of which read, "Mr. Prabowo and Mr. Sandiaga Uno whom we respect, please refuse the reconciliation offer. Because this regime is able to carry out anything that violates the rules or the constitution."
AUSTRALIA
The Australian Police has arrested three men in Sydney, Australia on Tuesday (02/07). The three men were arrested under the suspicion of plotting attacks inspired by the Islamic State group in various places in Sydney. Two suspects are in their twenties, whilst the third one is a 30-year-old man. The Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton stated that the three men came to know each other by sharing extremist views online.
EUROPE
The Russian President Vladimir Putin experienced a big loss (02/07) after a Russian naval research fleet burned down in the deep ocean near Severomorsk, killing 14 crew members. Meanwhile, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said in Moscow (05/07) that Russia would help to strengthen the Venezuelan military personnels since President Nicolas Maduro is a staunch ally of Russia.
