The Area Studies Unit employs multidisciplinary approach to provide prescriptive analytics, research, and perspectives with regard to the formulation, mechanism, and impacts of public policies in Indonesia’s particular regional units. Our extensive research is focused on the analysis of Ocean Governance, Urbanism, and Indigenous People.

Indigenous People

UN DESA (United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs) identifies indigenous peoples as the “inheritors and practitioners of unique cultures and ways of relating to people and the environment. These peoples retained social, cultural, economic, and political characteristics that are distinct from those of the dominant societies in which they live. Despite their cultural differences, indigenous peoples from around the world share common problems related to the protection of their rights as distinct peoples”.

INADIS is committed to assist indigenous peoples in dealing with globalization and development efforts that have or potentially disturb the social and environmental equilibriums maintained by indigenous values, customs, and practices. We work closely with target groups to provide insight and program plans that adhere to both the indigenous and sustainability principles.
