[Press Release] “The 1st Transformer Conversation” International Socialisation Workshop for Community Service & Conference Of Advance International Relations With CESFAS UKI
Jakarta, January 12 2024 — On Friday, the Center for Security and Foreign Affairs (CESFAS) FISIPOL UKI in collaboration with INADIS held an international seminar and paper conference entitled "The 1st Transformer Conversation" located in Building A-B, Universitas Kristen Indonesia. This international seminar with the main theme "New Frontier of International Security Threats" presented several of the best speakers, such as Wani Sabu (Executive Vice President Center of Digital BCA), Prof. Angel Damayanti, Ph.D.; Emir Chairullah, Ph.D.; Gibraltar Andibya Muhammad, S. Sos; and Andrin Raj in the morning session; while Irine Hiriswari Gayatri, Ph.D.; Ararat Kostanian, M.A., Ph.D.; and Oscar Velasco, M.Sc (Cand.) took part in the afternoon session.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Wani Sabu started this seminar by providing insight to the participants regarding the rise of online fraud, such as social engineering which disrupts international security. Likewise, what was conveyed by the next four speakers in the morning session was that currently, international security is not only characterized by traditional threats, such as war, but also non-traditional threats. In Indonesia itself, there are still many forms of non-traditional threats, such as identity politics and disinformation. Along with the digital age, digitalization allows the emergence of disinformation which can influence public opinion to provide political advantages for certain groups, especially in the current general election era. The same thing happened in the European Union region, which was characterized by the presence of populist groups which had an impact on political polarization between European Union member countries.
Furthermore, in the afternoon session, the three speakers generally conveyed that identity politics, which is often considered to disrupt international security stability, is not threatening or negative if it is not pushing one’s identity to the other and vice versa but rather to mingle and create a new identity that is inclusive. This international seminar was continued with a paper conference which was attended by around 10-15 students from various universities in Indonesia. Thus, we look forward to collaborate again with CESFAS UKI on the next agenda.
